August 25, 2008 · No Comments

Bankies notched up their first win of the season at Posties Park on Saturday morning against league new boys Lomond Vale.

Stephen McKeaveny gave UCS an early lead from the penalt spot after a defender almost caught a cross from the left.

Poor marking allowed the home side to be level by half time whan a cross from the left was poorly defended and the ball was knocked home at the back post.

Bankies got back in front when Gary Docherty knocked home a cross from the left wing and he got his second not long after. Only a fine save from the keeper stopped him from bagging a treble as Bankies created many chances in the second 45.

UCS 0 College 5

August 5, 2008 · No Comments

UCS suffered defeat at Donald Dewar on Monday night after a 2nd half collapse.

College took the lead inside 2 minutes. The rest of the first half saw both sides have chances. Russel Eldred missing Bankies best two chances.

An unstopable volley allowed College to double the lead minutes into the 2nd half. Bankies spent too much time tryign to play World Cup passes and it came back to bite them on more than one occasion as College pounced on mistakes to win by a comfortable margin.

UCS will neeed to cut out the mistakes if they have any aspirations of doing well this season.

West End United 3 UCS 4

July 26, 2008 · No Comments

UCS dusted off the cobwebs with a 4-3 win at Donald Dewar against league newcomers West End on Saturday morning.

18 players got a valuable run out as the new season fast approaches.

The Bankies were 2-0 up at half time. Steven McKeaveny and James McCafferty scoring. A batch of subs didn’t affect the Bankies and sub Gary McLaren added a third within minutes of the restart.

West End pulled two goals back in a matter of minutes. Firstly through a move on the right and then through an unfortunate Frank Hotchkiss own goal. Bankies added a fourth through trialist “Jambo” with a smart lob from 20 yards before Kevin Brodie was beaten at his near post to finish the scoring at 4-3

The only sour note was Mark Connelly picking up a meg injury.

Bankies will train on Tuesday at OHR - 6.30pm.

Olympique Energetik 0 UCS 0

February 24, 2008 · No Comments

UCS produced another attacking performance away to league leaders Olympique at Hamilton palace on Saturday morning.

With Harkin & Docherty injured and Mooney lost somewhere, Eldred, McNeil & Graham all came into the side that had beaten FC Inter midweek.

For the first 15 minutes it was all Bankies as they took a hold on the game. Only some good goalkeeping and poor finishing kept the scores blank as UCS and in particular Fraser Urquhart looked to build on the midweek win. Eldred had an effort cleared off the line.

Bankies should have had a penalty when an attacker was barged over in the box but the ref waved play on. At the other end Muir had two saves to make in probably the quitest 45 minutes he has had in the UCS goal.

The second half began with the hosts pressing and with Muir beaten a defender cleared off the line via the post. Olympique pressd a little more but got little out of the Bankies reargurad and on the odd occasion they did Muir was upto the task.

The game began to fizzle out and Bankeis had the upper hand but a point and a clean sheet away to the league leaders was a welcome bonus for the battling Bankies who have improved since the Xmas break.

Bankies climb a place to 8th with 13 points from 16 games.

FC Inter 1 UCS 2

February 19, 2008 · No Comments

Bankies picked up the points in this Monday night clash at the Frihill Complex.

Within three minutes they took the lead when Fraser Urquhart ran on to colin Donnelly’s through ball and slotted past the keeper. The Bankies lead was doubled when Gary Docherty’s diving header deflected into the top corner for a half time advantage.

Inter came at Bankies in the second half and pulled one back midway through the half. They should have been level when a close range effort was cleared off the line.

Clydebank had two chances to wrap the game up through subs Brodie & Eldred but they both missed.

A good win for UCS in a game that could have saw Inter go top with a win.
